Utah and the Netherlands: A Gateway to Your European Growth 🇳🇱

At our Crossroads of the World event with the Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency, we explored why the Netherlands is a premier gateway for Utah companies expanding into Europe. Known for its strategic location, world-class infrastructure, and innovation-driven economy, the Netherlands offers unmatched opportunities for businesses venturing into the European market.

Key Highlights from the Discussion:

  • Prime Location: Centrally located, with over one-third of the EU's population within a 300-mile radius.

  • Global Connectivity: Europe’s largest port (Rotterdam) and the 2nd most connected airport (Schiphol) streamline the transport of goods, people, and data.

  • Digital Gateway: The Netherlands boasts Europe’s most connected broadband network, making it a hub for digital innovation.

  • Business-Friendly Environment: R&D incentives, including a 9% tax rate on profits from innovative projects, make it an attractive destination for tech and innovation.

With Utah being five times larger geographically but home to only about one-fifth of the Netherlands’ 17 million people, there’s much to learn from their success in leveraging innovation and connectivity for growth.

Special thanks to our distinguished panelists for sharing their expertise:

  • Theo Peters, consul general of the Netherlands in San Francisco

  • Franz Kolb, director of international trade at the Utah Governor’s Office of Economic Opportunity

  • Mandy Jenkins, head of people at PassiveLogic, an established investor in the Netherlands

  • Joseph Cruz, partner international tax at Ernst & Young U.S.

This event is hosted in partnership with the Governor’s Office of Economic Opportunity and the Salt Lake Chamber.
