World Trade Center Utah Talks Exporting to Southern Utah

Washington County’s business community gathers at Southern Utah International Business Forum

SALT LAKE CITY, UT (Feb. 27, 2015) – More than 100 business and community leaders gathered at Dixie State University yesterday to participate in World Trade Center Utah’s (WTC Utah’s) Southern Utah Regional International Business Forum. The forum provided participants with tools, knowledge and resources to help them navigate the international business realm as they look to expand their companies internationally.

In his remarks, Derek B. Miller, president and CEO of WTC Utah and the event’s keynote speaker, highlighted the impact exporting can have on the local economy. Eighty-five percent of consumption and 95 percent of consumers are outside the U.S., yet only 1 percent of U.S companies are engaged in exporting, so the opportunity for growth through international business is tremendous.

“Exporting may seem intimidating for small to medium sized businesses who have never considered it before,” said Miller. “The goal of the forums, and more broadly WTC Utah, is to empower businesses across the State of Utah with the information and resources that will give them the confidence to look beyond the U.S. border and grow internationally.”

Partnering with the Utah Department of Workforce Services (DWS), WTC Utah hosted the forum in Washington County in an effort to expand its services to new parts of the state. Today’s forum was the second of four that will take place between November 2014 and July 2015 at various locations around Utah as part of WTC Utah’s rural outreach efforts.
The Department of Workforce Services provides resources to job seekers, employers and community leaders in Utah. DWS has a physical presence through its more than 30 employment centers located around the state and numerous programs that help communities grow their economy.
