WTC Utah Trade Mission Provides Opportunity for GlobalSim to Increase Presence in Middle East
GlobalSim, a local Salt Lake City company, is one of the world’s leading crane simulation technology firms. In October, they participated in a trade mission to Jordan and Israel, led by Governor Gary R. Herbert and coordinated by World Trade Center Utah. The trade mission played an important role in helping the company increase their existing footprint in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
“We’ve been looking at ways to increase our presence in other countries because of the global value of our technology,” said GlobalSim President Jonathon McCurdy. “Attending a trade mission provides the opportunity to do just that.”
The company, which has contracts at the Port of Ashod in Israel, was eager to understand the region’s broader market and find new opportunities there for business. During the trade mission, the trade mission delegates received briefings about the local markets, met with potential partners or clients in the region, attended networking events with high-level business and government officials, and participated in site visits.
“Trade missions offer us an avenue into a country quite different from us cold calling trying to introduce ourselves,” said McCurdy, “The valuable experience is really in learning about the country and how to do business there, finding out what services are available to follow-up any leads, and networking with business leaders who can help steer you in the right direction for your products and services.”
As part of the trade mission, the delegation also visited the Port of Ashod, one of Israel’s two largest ports. In 2016, GlobalSim recently installed three of their premium crane operator training simulators, which are used to train crane operators how to lift containers from a ship and move them to a truck or stack them on the ground.
During the site visit, McCurdy showcased their installation and gave Gov. Herbert and Utah directors the opportunity to experiment with the simulator.
“Seeing the product’s international success is a proud moment for GlobalSim,” said McCurdy.
In addition to their installations at the Port of Ashod, which receives 60 percent of goods imported into Israel, GlobalSim does business in more than a dozen countries on five continents. They expect the trade mission will help them cultivate new sales in the region.
As a result of their successful trade mission, GlobalSim has followed up on new leads and scheduled several email and phone meetings to discuss their products with potential customers. They have plans to travel back to the region for additional face-to-face meetings in the upcoming year.
“Building a relationship of trust with potential clients has been essential to our success here,” said McCurdy.
