World Trade Center Utah Named as One of Inspire InUtah’s 100 Companies Championing Women

WTC Utah supports the advancement of female employees, managers and leaders in business

SALT LAKE CITY, UT (April 26, 2023) — World Trade Center Utah (WTC Utah) has been named one of Inspire InUtah's 100 Companies Championing Women. This award demonstrates the organization's dedication to assisting and advancing women in the workplace and other arenas.

Inspire InUtah is a nonprofit dedicated to fostering gender equality and diversity in Utah's workplaces. They have launched a new program called 100 Companies Championing Women with the goal of elevating and recognizing the efforts being made to promote women in the workforce in Utah.

“We are honored to be recognized as one of Inspire InUtah’s 100 Companies Championing Women,” said Miles Hansen, president and CEO of World Trade Center Utah. “At WTC Utah, women lead at every level, making us stronger and more successful as we work to expand Utah’s global influence by accelerating global growth for Utah companies.”

WTC Utah is committed to promoting women in business and has put in place a number of efforts that increase diversity and opportunities for upward mobility and offer flexibility in the workplace. The organization offers a comprehensive benefits package, including four weeks of paid time off, traditional health insurance plans, dental and vision coverage, and short- and long-term disability coverage. To support nursing mothers, WTC Utah provides a private space with amenities for use during the workday. Additionally, there are options for hybrid work schedules and additional vacation days as needed.

“Following my maternity leave, the organization handled my return back to the office with a lot of care and consideration to ensure an easy and welcoming reentry,” said Julia Pappas, senior director of brand for WTC Utah. “In addition to all physical needs being thoughtfully met, the flexibility of work location and hours that we have here allows me to juggle things like early day care pick-ups and doctor appointments.”

Diversity has become increasingly important in today’s political, economic, and global business environment. A study by Deloitte found that inclusive teams outperform their peers by 80% in team-based assessments. “I strongly believe in the importance of elevating diverse and female representation in all areas of our work, from the team and board we're building to the businesses and partners we work with,” said Tiffeny Yen-Louie, CMO of WTC Utah. “When individuals see themselves represented, they are inspired and empowered to reach their full potential.”

In creating an environment for women in business to connect, learn and celebrate one another, WTC Utah collaborates with the Women's Business Center of Utah to host an annual event commemorating International Women's Day. The content-rich event features female business leaders and entrepreneurs, including those who have built an international business. Driven by the women of WTC Utah, the discussions include reasons women-owned or led companies are less likely to grow their companies internationally and highlight local business resources and support that are available.

To further its commitment to improving the status of women in leadership within the company, WTC Utah took the ElevateHER™ Challenge in April 2022. With it, the company pledged to increase the retention rate of women at all levels, boost the proportion of women on the board, and launch a mentoring and sponsorship program for female leaders. WTC Utah has made headway on fulfilling these objectives, and it plans to keep working harder.

Other leadership opportunities that WTC Utah sponsors and supports for its team members include participation in the Women's Leadership Institute's leadership development series, as well as the Leadership Utah programs run by the Salt Lake Chamber and South Valley Chamber. Women on the WTC Utah team also hold positions on boards and committees with community organizations like the Salt Lake County's Career Services Council, South Valley Chamber, Utah Council for Citizen's Diplomacy, Utah's New American Task Force, and Utah Valley University’s International Committee.

“Creating a culture of inclusion and opportunity for women is a top priority for us,” said Hansen. “We believe that by championing women in business, we can help to drive Utah’s economic growth and success on the global stage.”
