Utah delegation finds success at the Farnborough Airshow
It was a big week for Utah’s aerospace industry at the Farnborough International Airshow in London. From July 18–22, 11 Utah companies — led by Lieutenant Governor Deidre Henderson, the Governor’s Office of Economic Opportunity, and World Trade Center Utah — exhibited their products and innovations as part of the state’s official delegation.
Farnborough is one of the largest air shows in the world. The show features over 70,000 attendees and 1,500 exhibiting companies from the industry’s core sectors: space, civil, military, manufacturing technology, rotary, and maintenance and repair.
The companies representing Utah included CleanJoule, Electric Power Systems (EP Systems), Fortem Technologies, HyPerComp Engineering, i5 Services/CONNEX Marketplace, IMSAR, Intergalactic, KIHOMAC, Optisys, RAM Aviation Space & Defense, and TL&CO Solutions.
Successes from the show will play out in the months and years to follow, but there are a few big wins ready to share.
EP Systems
On the first day of the airshow, Cache Valley’s EP Systems held a signing ceremony to announce that Tokyo-based SkyDrive had selected them to be the battery provider for their SD-05 vehicle. In 2025, SkyDrive aims to enter into service in the Osaka Bay Area using the “flying car” of the SkyDrive Type SD-05. Learn more about the collaboration here.
Just two days later, EP Systems and Supernal announced a partnership to accelerate the development and production of safe, lighter-weight and certifiable eVTOL vehicle batteries. “We are pleased to partner with Supernal as it seeks to democratize flight and create a new, sustainable transport category,” said Nate Millecam, President and CEO of EP Systems. Utah Booth Awarded ‘Best in Show’
The state of Utah’s booth, designed by WTC Utah’s Julia Breinholt-Pappas and Jake Glenn, was selected as ‘Best in Show’ in the USA Pavilion. The booth housed the Utah business delegation — including dedicated subsections for two exhibiting companies — and provided a hub for the companies to meet with potential clients.
Jake, who organized the trade show booth and Utah delegation on behalf of the state, accepted the award from Kallman Worldwide, Inc. When presenting the award to the state of Utah, Kallman shared that they “appreciate those who take pride in what they do.”
Utah Reception
The state of Utah hosted a reception and welcomed the UK Department of International Trade, senior officials from Northrop Grumman, the Utah delegation, and many potential customers and partners. Lieutenant Governor Deidre Henderson, Speaker of the Utah House of Representatives Brad Wilson, and Senator Jerry Stevenson discussed:
The global recognition Utah receives from the defense community as a hub of the Sentinel program.
Utah’s rich history in the aerospace industry.
The success of the industry’s startup community in the state.
