President’s Message — December 2020

Written by Miles Hansen, WTC Utah CEO and President

We have faced many unprecedented challenges this year, but Utah companies have persevered by implementing innovative solutions. It has been exciting to see the hundreds of Utah companies that have continued to lean all the way into the many opportunities around the world despite the uncertainty and challenges 2020 has thrown at us.  WTC Utah has never been busier supporting Utah companies as they compete and win internationally.  Check out three quick examples:

  • Statues.com: Marblecast Products Inc. redeveloped its online presence at STATUES.COM for greater global reach with WTC Utah’s support and a STEP Grant generating six-figure increases in international sales.

  • Quansys Biosciences: WTC Utah enabled Quansys Biosciences to obtain needed government certifications in Thailand, resulting in an initial $20k sale of their RUO immunoassay products with additional sales in the pipeline.

  • Sunwarrior: As a result of registering their products in Canada and Panama with WTC Utah support, Sunwarrior, a superfood supplement company located in Washington, Utah, recognized $750k in new sales.

Recognizing that Utah’s path to economic recovery runs directly through global markets, World Trade Center Utah is excited to announce the launch of our newly enhanced Global Business Services.  We are grateful to our board members, the Governor’s Office of Economic Development, and our many partners that have invested time and energy to help refine and improve our existing services while working shoulder-to-shoulder with us in their delivery.

WTC Utah’s Global Business Services builds on the capabilities WTC Utah has developed over many years of helping Utah businesses grow in markets around the world through increased global sales and investment. The organization has always provided businesses with consultations, data-driven insights and grant funding. Now, in partnership with service providers in Utah and around the world, it also offers everything in between such as market research, buyer personas, strategy development, translation, logistics, freight forwarding, global matchmaking and more.

WTC Utah assesses a company’s preparation, strategy and capabilities before the company invests in international expansion. After providing data-driven advice to help develop a company’s international expansion strategy, WTC Utah and its partners then deliver services to the company to develop a company’s website, refine their marketing strategy, move product, become legally compliant, and connect with potential partners and customers in markets around the world. The organization also administers public and private grant programs that are designed to catalyze global growth for small Utah businesses, especially those in rural Utah and the state’s multicultural communities.

In addition to offering a full range of products and services to help enter and expand in global markets, WTC Utah can also help Utah companies find capital to help finance that growth.

WTC Utah VP Aaron Starks, who joined the team this fall after seven successful years growing the international division of Franklin Covey, is leading our business consulting and development services. While many of these services will be facilitated by the WTC Utah team, the organization is partnering with our board members and a broad coalition of experts in the community to offer a wide range of expertise and experiences.
