WTC Utah Board Thanks Derek Miller for Exceptional Leadership

Salt Lake City – Derek B. Miller, president and CEO of the World Trade Center (WTC) Utah, was introduced this morning as the new president and CEO of the Salt Lake Chamber and Downtown Alliance, replacing the retiring Lane Beattie, effective April 30, 2018.  Since its inception 12 years ago, the World Trade Center Utah has been a strategic partner with the Salt Lake Chamber.

“I have loved being part of an organization that promotes prosperity across Utah by advocating for free enterprise and international business,” said Miller. “I never cease to be amazed at the innovative Utah companies that are doing exactly what a free market requires them to do—to compete in a global market and win. I am grateful for the opportunity to be part of the stellar World Trade Center Utah team that helps grow Utah’s economy by attracting investment and increasing exports.”

“Since Derek was introduced as WTC Utah’s president and CEO in June of 2014, the organization has experienced phenomenal growth and hundreds of Utah companies have expanded their business overseas,” said Scott Anderson, Chair of the WTC Utah Board of Directors. “On behalf of the Board, I express my appreciation to Derek for his exceptional leadership in overseeing and advancing the state’s prominent position in the global business environment.”

Miller’s accomplishments as WTC Utah’s president and CEO include growing the organization’s membership and partnerships to over 100, initiating a rural outreach effort to help small businesses across Utah expand their international business and leading the 25K Jobs Tour to 25 counties, and directing numerous trade missions across the globe, including to London, Singapore, Vietnam, Jordan and Israel.

The WTC Utah executive committee has appointed a search committee, consisting of the WTC Board officers, including Scott Anderson (Zions Bank), Chair; Natalie Gochnour (Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute), Public Sector Co-Chair; Lew Cramer (CBC Advisors), Vice Chair; and Rich Lambert (Wells Fargo), Treasurer.

Information regarding the application process will be made available soon and will be posted on the WTC Utah website (wtcutah.com). Miller has agreed to continue to serve as president and CEO until a replacement is in place.
