13 Utah Companies Receive Grants to Fuel Global Expansion

Salt Lake County, UT— World Trade Center Utah (WTC Utah) awarded more than $70,000 in grants to Utah companies at Salt Lake County’s Metro Solutions event on June 8 to help offset the costs associated with global expansion.

“We were thrilled to see the number of quality applicants that applied for the Utah Export Acceleration Grant,” said Derek B. Miller, president and CEO of WTC Utah. “The number of companies looking to take their products or services global is exciting for our state and illustrates that trade matters in Utah. We are excited to be part of the exporting journey of these companies.”

These grants are the first of three rounds of funding from the Export Acceleration Grant, which is made possible thanks to a $200,000 contribution from JPMorgan Chase & Co.

World Trade Center Utah and Salt Lake County previously worked with JP Morgan Chase & Co. and the Brookings Institution on the Global Cities Initiative (GCI). The outcome of GCI was a plan to increase exports in the Salt Lake metro area. The Utah Export Acceleration Grant is an important part of accomplishing this goal.

With the export plan now underway, Salt Lake County hosted the Metro Solutions event to launch the next step of its global strategy for the county: its trade and investment plan. This plan highlights opportunities for local businesses to expand into global markets and provide more good-paying jobs. More than 300 regional business leaders attended Metro Solutions at the South Towne Expo Center to celebrate the launch of the plan, which can be viewed here.

“Only by taking a regional approach can we ensure that our businesses stay globally competitive, our workforce has an opportunity for good-paying jobs now and in the future, and our families participate in broad-based prosperity and maintain a strong standard of living,” said Mayor McAdams.
