Overview

The Governor’s Office of Economic Development is partnering with World Trade Center Utah to organize an official state trade mission led by Governor Spencer J. Cox to Mexico. With 120 million people and a GDP of approximately $1.33 trillion, Mexico offers tremendous opportunities for Utah companies interested in increasing their footprint in Latin America.

The trade mission will take place from October 16 through October 23, 2021.

The trade mission will be a significant opportunity for Utah businesses to grow their international sales and to connect with potential partners and investors that are eager to expand their trade and investment opportunities.

On this trade mission, you will engage with high-level business, government, and investment leaders, receive briefings by in-country experts and the U.S. Commercial Service, attend VIP networking receptions, participate in company visits and take part in customized B2B meetings.

Small businesses may be eligible for grants administered by WTC Utah to offset some travel expenses and to receive customized trade services at no cost. Please reach out to learn how you can apply.

The deadline to apply for the trade mission is Tuesday, July 13, 2021.

Why Mexico?

With the 15th-largest economy in the world, Mexico will see extensive growth potential due to its young population and large, diversified market. Given this market, along with the new U.S.–Mexico–Canada Agreement (USMCA), most U.S. products and services have ample opportunities for growth and market expansion.

Mexico ranked number one among U.S. trade partners in total trade in 2019, with a value of USD 614.5 billion. Exports totaled USD 256.4 billion and Imports totaled USD 358.1 billion. This trade directly and indirectly supports millions of U.S. jobs.

We are in the early stages of building out the Mexico trade mission program. We will be traveling to Mexico City and to Guadalajara. If there are particular companies, government leaders or organizations that would be beneficial for you to meet, please let us know. We will try to accommodate as many requests as possible. We like to prioritize meetings either in a group setting or one-on-one based on feedback we receive from our participants.

In addition to these meetings, optional Gold Key services can provide B2B matchmaking services. We will send out updates as we confirm meetings and other elements of the schedule.

The deadline to apply for the trade mission is Tuesday, July 13, 2021.

Disclaimer: The Governor’s Office of Economic Development and World Trade Center Utah will work to determine which individuals, businesses, and organizations will be selected to participate in the trade mission. Our objective is to build the very best team to maximize the value this trade mission creates for the State of Utah and its businesses. Each registrant will receive confirmation of his or her own acceptance along with a link for the participation fee. If, unfortunately, we are unable to accept your application to join this trade mission, we will notify you via email.

Cancellation Policy: If a mission participant cancels their participation of their own accord, the participation fee is non-refundable.  The exception to this cancellation policy is if the State Department and/or the Mexican government issues a “Level 4 –Do Not Travel” advisory for Mexico.  Currently, the CDC lists Mexico as a Level 3 country, which means that travelers should be “fully vaccinated before traveling to the destination. Unvaccinated travelers should avoid nonessential travel to these destinations.” We will keep you apprised of any changes in the public health situation in Mexico as we get closer to the trade mission.  If the State Department issues a Level 4 advisory for Mexico, we will either postpone the trade mission or transition to a virtual trade mission.  Participants will receive a portion of their participation fee that has not already been used to cover non-refundable costs.
