WTC Utah and UServeUtah announce 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance Partnership
Salt Lake City – World Trade Center Utah (WTC Utah) and the Lt. Governor’s Commission on Service and Volunteerism (UServeUtah) are teaming up to promote community engagement on the Sept. 11th National Day of Service and Remembrance.
The Sept. 11th National Day of Service is a federally-recognized day set aside to pay tribute to the victims of 9/11 and the men and women who rose up in service in the days and weeks following the attacks. WTC Utah is part of a global network of World Trade Centers around the world that will be uniting to remember the attacks at the New York headquarters, the Pentagon and Pennsylvania.
“The Sept. 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance is an opportunity for our state to join the nation and the world in remembering the selflessness and service people showed in the face of tragedy,” said Derek B. Miller, president and CEO of WTC Utah. “Though acts of terror did not end in 2001, we can combat evil by uniting on this day of service and remembrance.”
Utahns are known for their humanitarian efforts. More than 40 percent of residents volunteer, which makes Utah the top state for volunteerism in the country. In 2015, more than 800,000 people volunteered their time throughout the year. According to the Corporation for National and Community Service, this service had an estimated $3.8 billion economic impact on the state of Utah.
“Participating in the 9/11 Day of Service will help the disadvantaged and uplift our communities,” said LaDawn Stoddard, director of UServeUtah. “Service is the Utah way and is a significant contributor to our economic success. Utahns want to see each other and the state succeed, and they consistently demonstrate this through their commitment to volunteering.”
World Trade Center Utah and the Utah Commission on Service and Volunteerism will be participating in service projects benefitting the homeless community on Sept. 11 and challenge all members of the community to find a way to serve between Sept. 8 and 16.
