Downeast Outfitters was founded in 1991 when brothers Charlie, Bill and Jonathan Freedman began selling liquidated apparel out of the back of a friend’s delicatessen in Provo. Today the company has grown to a chain of 66 clothing and furniture retail locations with 1000 employees and wholesale distribution to 1500 customer accounts.
Jonathan oversees the apparel side of the business, which includes managing the design and development of a collection of private label brands made in the USA, Bangladesh and China. Jonathan has been named one of “Utah’s Rising Stars” and placed in the 40 under 40 by Utah Business Magazine. In 2009, Ernst & Young named the three brothers as Entrepreneurs of the Year for Downeast Outfitters. Jonathan graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University. He resides in Salt Lake City with his wife, Leanne, and their five children.
