The application window for a 2018 STEP Grant is October 9 through October 31, 2017.

To apply for a STEP grant follow these steps:

  1. The application will be available on October 9 at
  2. The application and associated forms must be completed in their entirety to be considered for the grant. Required questions are marked with an asterisk. Incomplete applications will be disqualified.
    1. Companies may save and resume their STEP grant application by clicking “Save and Resume Later” at the bottom of each application page. You can use the generated link anytime within the application submission period to resume your application. Without the link, the data you have entered cannot be retrieved, and you will have to start filling out the form at the beginning.
    2. It is recommended that you download the required forms as well as a copy of the application questions before beginning the application so you may prepare your responses in advance. You may download a copy of the application by clicking here.
  3. Companies may submit one application annually. You must indicate all trade-related activities that you are applying for on the grant. 
  4. Once an eligible application is submitted, it will be processed within 3-4 weeks and an official notification letter will be returned to the applicant electronically within 6 weeks of application submission. Next steps for the grant applicant will be detailed in the award notification letter.


The STEP grant application process is competitive, so WTC Utah encourages companies to thoroughly complete their application to the best of their ability to show the following:

  • Relevance of proposed activities and requested use of funds
  • Potential economic impact
  • Demonstration of team capabilities and experience
  • Clear outline of goals and timeline


Successful applications are required to demonstrate how they will expand company export activity, increase company revenue, create new jobs and similar criteria over the next 3-5 years as a result of the STEP grant. Companies will be required to complete one pre-event activity reporting survey and two additional post-event surveys.

Site visits may be conducted to further determine a company’s eligibility.
